Film Festival 2022- Rodobeasts!

Kia ora friends,

Hands down the most fun we have had this year! from script writing to auditions. We have created a movie that we, Room 11 feel is important. Our community is faced with so much bullying on many different platforms which we wanted to expose! Our movie is about what personal information you should NOT share online.

The process of creating a movie was more complicated than we thought. We had to make sure we had a story to explain how online bullying happens. from camera angles to sound and lighting. We also used a green screen, which was more complicated than we thought. Our school uniform is green, so wearing a green uniform in front of our green screen did not work. Do you know why? Well, stay tuned because later this week we will be sharing the tricks and tools we used for our green screen scenes.

We really hope you enjoy our movie and learn some tips about online activities.

Exploring the elements of a film

This week we explored films from past Manaiakalani Film Festivals.

We used the elements of a film to identify what part of the film we thought made it interesting or enjoyable.

Together we watched The Hunger Games and took a screenshot of a scene we enjoyed.

We thought the editing and transitions in between scenes were effective. For example transitioning from the classroom to the field and the close up shots when the characters were running.

A lot of Room 11 thought the use of the special effects to film in slow motion really highlighted the the expressions on the actors faces.

What do you think about these films?

Real of Fake?

We have been thinking critically about what we are seeing online. See our learning on our site here.

We took pictures of ourselves, removed the background and tried to create images of ourselves in different places. Our challenge was to make these look as real as possible. How realistic do you think our media is?

Kindness Project

The Kindness project by Room 4 at Pt England School inspired us to share the positive vibes in our class.

Take a look at our time lapse and see how our class student write positive words about each other. We hope this inspires you to spread the kindness.

Thank you Room 4 for inspiring us.lets spread the love.

Making Connections

Comments for Room 4

We have been practising writing quality comments and then posting them on blogs from Glen Innes School.

Mani and Dahrlyne left comments on Room 4’s blog post last week. We were able to read the comments and identify elements that made these quality comments. Can you?

Read their comments here

We chose a comment we were proud of and took a screenshot to share on our blog.

We also wrote about why we think it is a quality comment using our commenting criteria to help us.

We write our comments on a slide first and check:

  • Does the comment makes sense
  • Have we used punctuation
  • Check we are not repeating ourselves

It’s Cool to be Kind

Today Mrs Grant challenged us to spread good vibes in the Kind Kingdom.

We needed to use all our Cybersmart learning this year to be a positive influence online to claim our certificate.

Eli was the first in Room 11 to complete the Kind Kingdom Challenge and describe a time when he spread kindness either online or IRL.

Writing quality blog posts takes practise

Today we practised crafting a quality blog post. We used a slide in our Drive. This meant we could take time to craft our comment.

We focused on the following:

  • A greeting
  • Something positive about the post
  • Making a connection – what did their post remind us off.

Week took time to read our posts to check they made sense.

Our buddy also read out post before we copied and pasted onto the blog comments.
